Earlier this year I was introduced to Desserts by Juliette in Kouts and fell in love with the Italian buttercream that they use on their cupcakes. It’s creamy and buttery, but not quite as sweet as traditional icing.

Not long after trying some of their treats, I stopped at their storefront on Main Street and learned that while they really know how to make cupcakes, that’s not all they do. They carry lots of treats in their case that you can stop in and pick up. I highly recommend the banana, lemon and strawberry mint cupcakes that I purchased on that visit. You’ll also find a variety of doughnuts, scones, cookies, cakes, cake pops, hot chocolate bombs and other goodies.

As the holiday approaches, it’s a place to keep in mind for cookies, cakes, pecan bars, mini pies, cheesecakes, baklava, brownies, macarons and more that will WOW your guests.

The storefront opened in 2018, five years after one of the owners, Susan, and her daughter, Juliette, started a food blog. Baking helped them get through a time when they were taking care of Susan’s mother as she experienced health issues. They photographed the goodies they made and posted them to the blog.

The blog became popular and one of the posts ended up ranking at the top in Google, so they thought perhaps there would be a demand for their desserts. They started creating small batches out of a local commercial kitchen and selling them at local markets in the area. That grew into requests for custom cakes and other items. Finally, they were getting so busy that they knew it was time to open their own bakery.

The business has continued to flourish, and they also supply desserts for some area restaurants, create wedding cakes and fulfill a variety of custom orders. They even carry keto-friendly and gluten-free desserts.

One of their specialties is the Italian buttercream, which is a little more time consuming to make, but provides a light, silky consistency. It's also shelf stable and can be left out for a couple days. You can purchase containers at their store to use on your own baked goods, too.

Be sure to keep an eye on their Facebook page to see what delicious things they’ve been baking and check out the website, dessertsbyjuliette.com to learn more about their special “Cake of the Month” flavors.
